Notes
This was our first time hunting West Point Lake. My son and I scouted out a few different spots last week and finally got the chance to go this evening. While we didn’t see anything today, this spot looks promising. We were set up near a natural clearing next to the lake with plenty of thicket around us. There were also TONS of acorns around.
Either we got out there too late, or this is more of a morning spot. We’ll be back out next Saturday morning to try our luck again.
This is my first time deer hunting on public land so I did my best with what I have. I used a wheelbarrow to haul everything in and figured I could use that to help me get a deer back out of the woods. It is quite a trek on foot to our spot and this worked well. The blind is also big enough to set up with the wheelbarrow inside. It made for a good reclining seat for my son too! I brought the crossbow along until I get more comfortable shooting my compound bow from the blind with two people inside. It’s a little tight! Hopefully we’ll get us one next time.
Y’all take it easy!
